Receiving Announcements Through an Email Alert
Within any Workspace, List, Page or in this case the Announcements location, you can activate a feature that will send you automatic email alerts of specified parameters about the respective item.
First you must be within the page or item that you wish to set an alert on. The click on tabs at the top of the page and look for the bell icon marked "Alert Me."

Next select "Set alert on this ---" and a window will open for you to set your alert criteria.

The window provides you with all the alert parameters available to the alert item.

As a general warning, this alert feature is very useful, but can quickly become a burden if used excessively. Alerts can be set to inform instantaneously, daily, weekly or monthly. If you have multiple alerts set within the site, your Outlook inbox can quickly become overrun with alert emails. The alert button provides you with access to a "Manage my alerts" feature. Here you can delete any alerts unwanted alerts.
